Lyrics Learn Chrome Extension

1. Introduction & Scope

This privacy policy applies when you use the Lyrics Learn Chrome extension and related projects by Donny Badamo. Lyrics Learn helps you learn languages through real-time translation of song lyrics on Spotify. This policy describes what data the extension uses and how it is handled.

2. Data the Extension Collects and Sends

To provide translations and definitions, Lyrics Learn sends the following to third-party services:

Lyric text and words you click — sent to translation and dictionary APIs (MyMemory, Google Translate, Dictionary API, Urban Dictionary)

We do not collect: user accounts, email addresses, IP addresses, or browsing history outside of Spotify.

3. Data Stored Locally

Using Chrome’s storage.local, the extension stores only on your device:

Settings — language preferences (from/to), on/off state
Saved vocabulary — words you save for study
Translation cache — lyric text and translations, kept for up to 24 hours to reduce API calls

4. Third-Party Services

Lyrics Learn uses these external services. Each receives only the text you select or lyrics visible on screen:

MyMemory API — lyric translation — Privacy Policy
Google Translate — fallback translation — Privacy Policy
Dictionary API — word definitions — Privacy Policy
Urban Dictionary — slang definitions — Terms of Service

5. Single Purpose (Chrome Web Store)

Lyrics Learn has a single purpose: language learning through lyrics on Spotify. All data use is limited to that purpose.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data. Third-party APIs process the text you send according to their own privacy policies.

7. Data Retention

Local data: kept until you remove the extension or clear storage
Translation cache: automatically cleared after 24 hours

8. User Control

Disabling the extension — stops all data collection
Clearing vocabulary — removes saved words
Removing the extension — removes all local data

9. Permissions

Why the extension requests each permission:

storage — settings, vocabulary, and cache
tabs — communicate with Spotify tabs to show lyrics

10. Analytics & Tracking

We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or any tracking services.
